Read NGPF's school-by-school analysis of financial education in America today
The financial education movement goes beyond the United States. Saskatchewan teachers Cindy Lowe and Jill Labas share how they built support to make personal finance mandatory for every Grade 10 student in the province.
Their students once told them finance class was “the one class where they learned something practical every day,” and that enthusiasm fueled systemic change.
The two worked together to create change through petitions, student voices, and community partnerships.
As Cindy reminds us, “Society benefits from financially literate students. The work is noble and important.”
Listen to this episode and walk away inspired, not only by the advocacy playbook, but also by the joy these educators bring into their classrooms.

What if every high school senior graduated with a real investment portfolio?
In this episode, Josh Landay, Executive Director of Gifted Savings, shares how his nonprofit gifts seniors a $1,000 portfolio, including stocks, bonds, and even Bitcoin ETFs, while teaching them the fundamentals of investing.
Students say things like, “I never thought this could be for me. Now I understand it is for me,” capturing the power of experiential learning.
You’ll also hear stories of impact, like one student who promised to “lift as I rise,” showing how financial confidence can ripple through families and communities.
This conversation offers a fresh look at how philanthropy and education can intersect to change students’ financial futures.
